A Literary Season Online | Margaret Atwood October 11.
"If you were going to shove women back into the home and deprive them of all of these gains that they thought they had made, how would you do it?"

This was the driving question behind the writing of the Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood explained in a Penguin interview about the book. The question probes how a totalitarian regime takes hold, and the tools of systemic oppression. And in times like these, it’s no surprise that the book has regained popularity, with an award-winning series made by Hulu, starring Elizabeth Moss as Offred. The series won eight Primetime Emmy Awards in 2017, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

“This place, it belongs to no one, to everyone”
From Mushkegowuk to New Orleans: A Mixed-Blood highway

Indigenous stories have long been pigeon-holed into harmful stereotypes: violence, drunkenness, poverty, obesity; the wise elder, the noble savage, the Indian princess. While the most brazen stereotypes may have disappeared, insidious misrepresentations remain in popular media in the form of oversimplification, omission and romanticization. Stereotypes hurt society as a whole. For indigenous people, stereotypes instill limiting beliefs and decreases cultural pride. For non-indigenous people, stereotypes dehumanize indigenous individuals and diminish respect for their cultural heritage.

    ROAD ALERT

    Please StayAtHome
Starting this Wednesday, only local traffic, heavy vehicles, urban and foreign transportation will be able to cross the La Obra area (El Pípila Underpass); private vehicles will use alternate routes; Likewise, the Josefina Orozco street will activate “round trip” to speed up road mobility.

This was reported by the Traffic and Mobility Police Station attached to the Ministry of Public Security, the measure is "indispensable" since the area of La Obra continues to use it and saturates traffic, causing delays in times of transit and mobility of people and vehicles .

For this reason, there will be a greater presence of Transit elements to divert the passage of vehicles on alternate routes; Those who "get off" the Manuel Zavala Bypass, towards the Center, Celaya or Dolores Hidalgo, will enter through "El Caracol" towards Calle 5 de Mayo, they will continue through the exit to Celaya and along Calle Josefina Orozco.

Josefina Orozco Street will operate “round trip” in the Libramiento Manuel Zavala, so it is essential to drive at the permitted speed, respect pedestrian crossings, obey the road signs and follow the instructions of the traffic elements.

Those who go from Dolores Hidalgo to the Libramiento or to Celaya, will have to use the alternate lateral road that is indicated to avoid crossing through the La Obra area.
